What are Chemical Peels?

Chemical peels are skin care treatments that work to reduce wrinkles and prevent visible signs of aging, such as brown spots and adult acne. The chemicals are applied to the face to remove skin cells and stimulate the production of healthy new cells. Chemical peels are an effective way to dry out active acne in preparation for further treatments. Here at The Vanishing Vein, we offer several different chemical peels, including glycolic, AHA, lactic, salicylic and jessners.

What are the Differences Between the Chemical Peels?

  • Glycolic Peel -Treats fine lines, acne, uneven pigmentation and sun damage. Glycolic acid works by peeling off the outer layers of the skin, so new fresh skin underneath is uncovered. The acid urges the creation of new collagen.
  • AHA Peel -The mildest peel. It helps to separate dead skin from healthy skin. Used to smooth skin and even out skin tone. Also treats acne and reduces acne scars.
  • Lactic Peel -Treats a variety of skin problems, including rosacea, wrinkles, age spots and eczema. It provides a high level of hydration and is very effective in removal of the dead epidermis, revealing radiant skin.
  • Salicylic Peel -Used to treat acne. It’s known to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Salicylic acid can gently remove the upper layers of your surface skin. The skin left behind is tighter, firmer, brighter and smoother.
  • Jessner Peel -It is best used for treatment of cystic acne and acne scarring. It smoothes and revives the skin, exposing a younger and newer skin layer underneath. It also reduces oil production and open blocked fatty follicles, which helps to heal acne. There will be downtime for about three to four days. Peeling and flaking lasts about seven days.
